Karen Attreed aka YogiLocks

Hi, my name is Karen a.k.a. Yogilocks! Through my website I want to share with you my love of yoga both on and off the mat.  But first a little about myself..........

My mum had practiced yoga on and off for as long as I could remember but it was only when I was in my mid 20’s that I became interested in yoga - and yes I do hear  myself saying''why didn't I listen to her earlier'!  Most of my personal practice has been studying with Iyengar teachers in Nottingham.

When I started my yoga journey I lived on a boat with husband Nick and our border collies. Practicing yoga on a boat really tested my balance and I became quite creative with my use of space! My husband worked miracles adapting our boats so I could practice and also to accommodate all my yoga kit.

In 2014 I decided to embark on the journey of becoming a teacher and chose to study for the 3 year Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga and that is where my love of sharing yoga with others really began.

Fast forward 10 years and we have moved into a house so I now have a room dedicated to yoga and even a rope wall! 2020 saw the biggest change the world has experienced with the COVID pandemic. It was a strange time for everyone and many people struggled with how to cope. Many people turned to yoga and meditation. Like many teachers I missed the in-person teaching but I embraced the world of zoom which has opened so many possibilities, not least that my mum can practice yoga with me now! I am still running a regular live zoom session every week which is great as friends who live all over the country are able to still attend!

I have been busy learning new yoga skills and techniques including completing my Yin Yoga level 1 training, CPD classes focusing on anatomy, trained to be a Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs teacher and currently studying Ayurveda.

2024 highlight has definitely got to be when I was asked to be the yoga teacher for YEStival. It was something I had wanted to do for a while but never quite managed to pluck up the courage, then all of a sudden I was there teaching yoga in a paddock with Alpacas! What a fantastic experience, hopefully there will be more!
